Preschool

The Finley School District provides an Early Childhood program for children with developmental delays.

This program is designed for children ages 3-5 with challenges in one or more of the five developmental areas:

  • Cognitive - counting, name colors, recognize his/her name
  • Physical/sensory - hold a crayon correctly, climb a ladder to slide, move, see, and hear
  • Communication - speak clearly, relay simple message, sing simple songs, understand language and express needs.
  • Social/emotional - get along with others, share, eye contact, pretend, put toys away
  • Adaptive skills - potty trained, dress/feed themselves

If you are unsure if your child is at age level in any of these areas or just want to learn more about your child's development, please contact the elementary school at 509-586-7577 to schedule an appointment for a screening. Screening is the first step in determining whether your child is on track developmentally. This service is free and it will take only about an hour to complete.

With this information, parents and educators can work together to determine if a delay exists. Delays may qualify students for services such as preschool and/or speech therapy. Further evaluation may be necessary to determine next steps. If your child has health issues, or is receiving therapy from a private provider, he/she may qualify for school district services in addition

If you are concerned about the development of a child under the age of 3, you may contact the Benton Frankin Infant Toddler program at (509) 783-1131 ext 128.
